Tournaments
When you play poker online you have to chose between playing a cashgame or a tournament. Let me explain to you all the different types of tournaments.
Freeze out
This is the most popular one. Every player begins with the same amount of chips and the game ends when one player has all the chips. Limits, blinds and antes are raised with every level. If players are eliminated, the remaining players are brought to different tables. At the end, when one player has all the chips, the prize money is divided according to a certain structure.
Rebuy
A rebuytournament has more prize money. In a normal situation you can do a rebuy when your amount of chips is equal to or less than the amount you started the tournament with. This is variable and depends on the tournament. The risk with this kind of tournaments is higher as players don’t have to worry about being eliminated early.
Shoot out
In this kind of tournament players are not moved to other tables when other players are eliminated. Every table is played till there is one winner at that table. Then all the winners are put together on a table untill we have one winner left.
Satellites
These are tournaments with a small buy in where you can qualify for a tournament with a higer buy in. For example: the buy in for the ‘higher’ tournament is $1000, the buy in for the satellite tournament is $25. Every winner of the satellite can play the higher tournament for free.
Freeroll
You can play these tournaments for free. There is no buy in. Freerolls are a great way to learn more about poker en maybe even to win some money.
